My aviation journey began in 1994, taking me from piloting the B737-300, MD-11, and the B747-400, to my first instructing role in General Aviation. There, I trained a diverse group of individuals, learning to adapt to the unique learning styles and preferences of each trainee. This experience was invaluable in understanding the personalized approach needed in aviation training. Since 2014, I have been flying the Embraer 170 series, and in 2016, I became a Type Rating Instructor (TRI) for the EMB170 series. Flying and teaching are not just jobs to me; they are my passion. The joy and fulfillment I find in instruction—helping trainees develop personally and professionally—are immensely rewarding. With the introduction of Pilot Competences by ICAO and EASA, focusing on improving candidate and crew performance through observed behaviors, I’ve embraced these guidelines to further enhance trainee development. My philosophy centers on the candidate, leveraging our role as instructors to significantly impact their skill enhancement through teamwork. Being part of the Dutch Aviation Trainers team is a privilege.
